About This Website

The name of this blog comes primarily from Titus 2:1. The Apostle Paul, writing to Titus, says,

"But as for you, speak the things fitting for sound doctrine."

Titus was sent by Paul to the island of Crete where young, fledgling churches needed to be set in order and leadership appointed (1:5). False teachers were influencing the church, upsetting families, taking advantage of the people, and denying the gospel of grace. As for the culture on the island of Crete, one of their own poets, Epimenides, described them as "always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.' To "Cretanize" was to lie. There were no wild animals on the island, so the joke was that the only "beasts" were the people.

In contrast to these false teachers, Titus was to teach sound doctrine that produced, in contrast to the culture, sound living. The Greek word for "sound" in Titus 2:1 is hygiaino (ὑγιαίνω). Just a quick glance at the word and you can see its connection to our English word for hygiene. It means to be healthy; in a state of wellness or wholeness; functioning as intended.

That's what this blog is about. The teaching of God's Word isn't just to satisfy our curiosity. It's not about just being right (as much as that matters). God's Word, correctly interpreted, taught, and applied is meant to change lives. To produce spiritual health. If something's not true, it will be destructive and have a deadly effect on us. If it is true, it will be wholesome and help us function as we were intended--as we did before the fall into sin and as we will at the restoration of all things in Jesus. A life lived in accordance with sound doctrine will honor God's Word (2:5), put the slandering enemy to shame (2:8), and adorn the gospel of Jesus Christ (2:10). Ultimately, God will be glorified and people drawn to Him.

About Me

IMG_1289_edited.jpg

I know what's it's like to live life with and without Jesus. All I can say is that I am SO THANKFUL for his grace that saved me and allows me to walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:14), knowing I'm loved and forgiven. I'd hate to see who and where I'd be without Jesus. He has blessed me with a wonderful wife, four children, and the privilege of being in local church pastoral ministry.

My passion is to study, preach, and teach God's Word. And I can't help but write about it. If I'm not writing, I'm not learning. If I'm not writing or learning, I'm violating my own leadership principles to always be learning and to lean into the way God has wired me to contribute to His kingdom purposes. When I write these blogs, I try to write in such a way that this is something I would want to pass down to my kids. It's something I would want them to know.

My theological education includes Frontier School of the Bible and Shepherds Theological Seminary. If you feel inclined, please join the mailing list for new articles. I promise not to let AI do the writing and to always stick to the sacred texts of God's Word, the Bible. It's my prayer that this page would be a helpful resource for you in your walk with Jesus. To God be the glory for any and everything He does through this humble site.
